October is the perfect time to discover how beautiful fall is in the Hamptons. Most people think of the Hamptons only as a summer destination. Fall is actually quite a spectacular time of the year here. The harvest season is the perfect time to visit the vineyards, orchards, and pumpkin patches as the vines and foliage turn into the autumnal hues. Guests resist going to pick apples and getting lost in the corn mazes. When they return to the inn they are full of laughs and giggles along with apples and cider. They can’t believe how much fun they just had. Sometimes you just have to let it all go and be a kid again!
There are four orchards/pumpkin patches within two miles of our inn. Each offer a completely different experience so you can pick which you want to try or try them all!
- Hank’s Pumpkintown – the closest and walkable, just across the street has apple picking, one of the largest pumpkin patches, and a corn maze. (this farm attracts a lot families with small children)
- Seven Ponds Orchards – located about one mile from the has a little bit of everything and less crowded.
- Milk Pail U Pick – my personal favorite, this is the largest orchard that grows over 23 types of apples some are unnamed an just numbered. Milk Pail works with Cornell University in growing new varieties of apples. This farm is 11th & 12th generation carrying on the family farming tradition for over 350 years! I always suggest just going for a visit, it’s worth the trip! The apples are so delicious and with so many choices probably won’t be able to pick a favorite.
- Fairview Farm- this year Fairview has created a very special maze celebrating Marjorie R Ludlow’s 100th birthday and their farmhouse which was moved to it’s present location 100 years ago. You won’t want to leave without a visit to the farm stand to pick up a fresh baked pie!
Besides all the orchards, farms, and vineyards we can’t forget the beaches. If you prefer serenity, then a beach walk will be perfect for you. Getting back in touch with nature and enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Hamptons in the fall are just what the doctor ordered.
