Many guests only think of visiting the Hamptons on weekends during summer months. But fall weekends in the Hamptons are my favorite time of year here. In fact when we moved to Maine I would constantly tell people how special fall in the Hamptons was but many people didn’t realize that.
My recommendation would be to plan three days so you can get to enjoy both the Hamptons (Southfork) and the North Fork. There are over 30 vineyards, breweries and farms to visit.
The Northfork
Fall weekends on the NF can be very busy, it’s harvest time. The vineyards are busy and so beautiful. In case you didn’t know it but the leaves on the vines change color too! My suggestion is plan about three tasting visits. It might not sound like enough but it will be. If you are a lover of oysters then you MUST plan time to visit Widow’s Hole Oyster farm. The owners Mike & Isabel will give you an educational tour and a tasting. Feel free to bring your own wine and sit outside by the bay and enjoy your tasting.
There is also a goat cheese farm (voted the best goat cheese in the US) on the Northfork if you prefer cheese to oysters or perhaps both if you were me.
The Hamptons – the other “fork”
As I mentioned previously fall is my favorite time of the year here. Fall weekends are busy because it’s when the apple orchards and pumpkin farms are open for U-Pick. If you are a cheese lover than you will want to stop at Mecox Bay Dairy for some artisanal cheese to go with the wine you probably purchased. 
There are also three vineyards on this “fork” and you won’t want to miss visiting Wolffer Estate Vineyard. Candlelight Fridays have already start and The Lighting of the Vines is December 1st. Have you ever seen a vineyard light all the vines in white Christmas lights?
Fall is also the perfect time to visit all the small villages for shopping and dining without all the summer crowds. Each village has it’s own style so there a reason to visit each. Your weekend wouldn’t be complete without a walk on the beach. It’s such a perfect time of year to enjoy a beach walk before you head back to your hectic life.
You will leave here saying you had no idea the Hamptons was a fall destination!
